Classroom visits during the month of December included:
INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DAY–is celebrated every year on 10th December. This day is celebrated internationally to honor 10th Dec 1948, when the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We filled the UNESCO Tree – with ‘I am Grateful For” notes – we are grateful for so many things in our lives!
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE KIND?
We read the book – What Does It Mean to Be Kind? by Rana DiOrio
Who has the courage to be kind to a new student in class? One little girl with a red hat does. This story defines kindness by showing fun examples of what kindness is NOT and then gives great, practical ideas for ways to show kindness. Compassion, empathy for others, and little acts of kindness can make a big difference!
We made Kindness Cards – many students, staff and family members were presented with their Kindness Card.
MENTAL HEALTH AS PART OF THE PHYSICAL EDCATION AND HEALTH CURRICULUM!
Students in grade 7 and 8 are receiving instruction in Mental Health. The Pembina Trails School Division developed Mental Health: A Curricular Resource for Grade 7 to Grade 10 to support educators in discussing mental health with their students.
Lessons help students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need at various stages of their lives to make informed and health-enhancing decisions related to mental health. The lessons will challenge students to examine their assumptions about mental health and mental disorder, combat stigma, learn warning signs that may indicate a mental health problem for themselves or their peers, and identify appropriate mental health resources in both their school and community
TEAM RECYCLING!
Thank you to 1B and 6W for working so hard for the past month for Team Recycling.
You have been fantastic role models for our school and community!
Our daily Recycling program will begin soon – we have ordered the smaller recycling containers for our classrooms, and areas around the school. The containers are the size of a smaller garbage container – this will allow for daily collecting of the recycling – and for easy carrying for our students! Our classrooms will have students assigned to take their recycling bin to the main recycling area – an important job and part of building communities!
